WOAC Hosts a Record-Breaking Start to the 2026 Caswell Series
On May 3rd, 2026, Wellingborough Open Archery had the absolute pleasure of hosting the 1st stage of this year’s NCAS Caswell Series. What a fantastic way to kick off the outdoor tournament season!
A Nod to Our Heritage
Before we dive into the day’s achievements, it is always wonderful to look back at the origins of this beloved local competition. The history of the Caswell trophy series dates all the way back to the 1950s and 60s.
The series was originally started by workers at the old Plessey Research Centre at Caswell, near Greens Norton, who formed a thriving archery club at the company. The very first trophy—styled beautifully like an archery target boss—was fabricated right there in the Caswell engineering workshop.
It is incredible to think that the local archery community is still competing for that same legacy today!
Record-Breaking Performances
The morning weather certainly tested everyone’s mettle, starting off heavily overcast with a rather stiff breeze that made finding the gold a challenge. However, the skies eventually brightened up to match the mood on the field.
We were thrilled to welcome 38 archers to the shooting line for this opening stage. The level of skill and determination on display was nothing short of spectacular. We are incredibly proud to announce that three individuals have UK records waiting to be validated across nine different formats! A massive congratulations to those archers!
